"Kawartha Rail-Trail is a community basednon-profit organization committed to the public ownership of abandonedCanadian National Railway (C.N.R.) lines in the Kawartha LakesRegion for recreation, conservation, and heritage purposes."(Taken from Kawartha Rail-Trail brochure in this accession). Todate, Kawartha Rail-Trail extends from Lindsay in the west toHastings in the east and Lakefield in the north. Kawartha Rail-Trailis a small part of the national Canadian Rails to Greenways Networkand the Ontario Trail Council. Kawartha Rail-Trail has the potentialto link its development to other developments existing in adjacentareas.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of a covering letterproviding some historical background of the Rail Trail movement,a bibliography on the subject, two issues of the organization'speriodical, a map of Southern Ontario called "Trails forToday and Tomorrow" showing proposed trails and green-ways,and a folder outlining Kawartha Rail Trails.
