Biography / History

Anna Maria Leveridge (nee Godbolt) was born in Harleston, Norfolk, England in 1846. She married David Leveridge (1840-1930) and together they had eight children between 1870 and 1887. The Leveridge family emigrated to Canada in approximately 1883 where they settled on a homestead near Coe Hill, Ontario. Anna Leveridge died in 1928.

Custodial History

This fonds remained in the custody of descendants of the Leveridges, the Tivy family, until it was donated to the Trent University Archives.

Scope and Content

This fonds includes the letters of Anna Leveridge, written to her mother and family friends in England, describing their boat trip to Canada and pioneer life in the backwoods of Hastings County, Ontario, near Coe Hill, Marmora, and Millbridge. The fonds also includes family genealogy and photographs.

Title based on creator of the fonds.

The fonds was donated by the Tivy family, descendants of Anna and David Leveridge, in January, 1973.

The letters are in folder one. The family genealogy, pictures of Anna and David Leveridge, and drawing and picture of homestead are in folder two.
