Updates to Learning Zones in Bata Library

We are pleased to announce updates to our Learning Zones in Bata Library.

Based on feedback from students, the library has now simplified the learning zones in the library - each floor of the Library now has its own zone colour:

  • 1st (lower) floor is yellow
  • 2nd (main) floor is green
  • 3rd floor is red (Silent Floor)
  • 4th floor is yellow.

Other changes:

  • Snack food is now permitted in all areas of the Library with the exception of the 3rd floor (RED ZONE) where NO FOOD is permitted.
  • the Library has implemented a civility campaign to encourage peer-to-peer monitoring of the zones.

Civility Campaign

The library is excited to be promoting a collaborative approach to the monitoring of the learning zones . We have initiated a civility campaign to encourage students to be respectful of each other's study needs and to be considerate of others by taking care of the space students study in.

  • We encourage peer-to-peer reminders to students who may have forgotten the guidelines regarding noise levels and food consumption.
  • Students are now able to text or phone concerns to the Library Service Desk, at 705-760-5023.
  • Students are encouraged to use reusable containers and to dispose of garbage in the appropriate recycle / waste containers.

You will find new colourful tent cards distributed around the Library with these reminders. We look forward to students' continuing cooperation in making the Library a great place to study!
