About LaTeX

From the LaTeX Website:

  • LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system; it includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation.
  • LaTeX is the de facto standard for the communication and publication of scientific documents.
  • LaTeX is available as free software.
  • LaTeX is not a word processor! Instead, LaTeX encourages authors not to worry too much about the appearance of their documents but to concentrate on getting the right content.

About the Workshop

Jeet Trivedi is a third-year Mathematical Physics student who taught himself LaTeX in first year and has used it extensively ever since.  It's particularly effective for writing lab reports, and even creates great presentation slides.  In this workshop Jeet will cover:

  • downloading and setting up the required packages on your computer
  • creating simple documents
  • using a template for lab reports

Bring your laptop!  There's lots of power in this newly renovated room, and you'll want to download and set it up while you're here.
