Biography / History

Born out of the Canadian Commonwealth Federation (1932-1960) the New Democratic Party originated in 1961. It is a party which aims to represent the working class and unions of Canada in politics. It is a socialist party advocating the democratic left instead of right wing politics.

Custodial History

This fonds was in the custody of Professor Bruce Hodgins before it was donated to Trent University Archives on November 12, 1999.

Scope and Content

This fonds consists of campaign materials, meeting minutes, correspondence, publicity materials, and newspaper clippings relating to the New Democratic Party in Peterborough. Also included are some records relating to the Party at the provincial and national levels.
