Submitting Course Reserve Material

Short Term Loan and Course Reserves

Leganto is replacing the Reserve Request forms previously found on this page.

  • See the guide linked at the top of this page for help creating an online reading list.

You can add any type of material to your Leganto Reading List: articles, books, book chapters, films, etc. If the Library has electronic access to these items, it will be automatically attached to your Reading List to ensure smooth access for your students through their Blackboard course.

If the Library does not already have electronic access to the items on your list, staff will investigate access options. Where possible, this means purchasing an online resource with unlimited user access.

Short Term Loan

Print books added to a Leganto Reading List will be automatically put on Short Term Loan, which means they can be checked out for a 4 day loan instead of the usual 120 day loan period.

A Short Term Loan item can be requested as a hold at either campus library (with a shorter hold shelf period) and renewed once.

4-hour Course Reserve

Print items can also be placed on an even shorter loan as a 4-hour Course Reserve. Course Reserves are kept behind the Service Desk and available for a 4 hour loan upon request.

These items cannot be placed on hold, transited between campus libraries, or renewed.

Tag them as "Course Reserve (4 hour)" (as per the guide section on Tag Citations), and we'll move them to the Reserve Collection for the branch where the course is being taught. This can sometimes take 2 business days.

If you're providing a personal copy, add this tag and bring it to the library. Staff will need some information from you when you drop it off at the Service Desk: the instructor name, the course name, the course code, and whether the course already exists as a Leganto Reading List.

Any item currently on Short Term Loan can be converted to a Course Reserve upon request.

More information is available for instructors on our guide, Leganto: Create Lists for Course Readings & Resources.

Blackboard

Reading Lists processed through Leganto will be available to your students through the Readings page of their Blackboard course, giving them easy access to any electronic resources you have added to the list.

Placing copies of material in Blackboard by-passes the library, and could violate copyright regulations. It is your responsibility to ensure copyright compliance through Trent's Copyright Office. Using permalinks to licensed library material is generally a better option.

Accessible Formats

Trent University is committed to providing inclusive and barrier free access to information; therefore, accessible formats of materials must be available upon request.
