The Reserve Collection is a closed-stack collection of readings which have been assigned for the current academic year. The Reserve Collection is available to faculty, staff, and students of Trent University.

How to Borrow

To borrow a Reserve item, bring your TrentU Card and the call number of the item to the Library Service Desk. The Client Support staff will retrieve the item for you. A valid TrentU Card must be presented at each transaction. Any material loaned out on a card is the responsibility of the card owner.  General Borrower Regulations regarding user privileges apply.  Consult the Borrowing Regulations for details.

Call numbers for Reserve materials can be found using TOPCAT. See the Finding Reserves page for help.

Loan Period

There are two types of loan periods in Reserve.  Most items circulate for three (3) hours, but some items may be taken out for two (2) days. The course instructor determines the loan period needed.

At any one time, a borrower may have out three (3) Reserve items.  There are no renewals on Reserve items.

Extended loans are permitted on Reserve items under exceptional circumstances only. Such requests may be sent to librarysupport@trentu.ca.

Holds

Holds may not be placed on Reserve items.  Their short loan periods make holds impractical.

Returning Reserve Material

All Reserve items are to be returned directly to the Library Service Desk during open hours. When the library is closed, they may be returned in the library drop box outside the main doors; these items will be processed as soon as possible after the library reopens.

Overdue Fine Rates

Failure to return a Reserve item by its due date/time will result in an overdue fine. Reserve fine rates are higher than regular fines because this material is in high demand.

Reserve fines are $5.00 an hour per item to a maximum fine of $75.00.  These rates apply to all items on Reserve at all times. Fines incurred are the responsibility of the registered card owner.  Fines are paid at the Library Service Desk during Client Support hours.

Lost and Damaged Material

When library material becomes lost or damaged, it is costly and disruptive to the library and its borrowers.  Lost item or replacement fees cover the cost of replacing and/or processing lost or damaged items.  Replacement fees are therefore charged to the most recent borrower when problems are discovered. If you receive an item in a damaged state, you should report this when taking it out, to avoid being charged a fee.  Lost or damaged items are charged a replacement fee of $100.00.
