Student Services

Accounts

All Trent students are provided with a Student Account which gives them access to the Trent network, myTrent, LearningSystem, Trent email, WebSpace web publishing, airTrent, computer labs, and myFiles Netstorage.

airTrent

airTrent is the wireless network service designed to provide the Trent community with internet access while on campus. airTrent offers an on-campus connection to existing services, including but not limited to TOPCAT, MyFiles, Netmail etc.

Audio/Visual Services

Video cameras are available to be borrowed from IT. Apple iMacs are available in our Editing Suites ( Bata Library suite 105) to facilitate student video production projects. Our facilities are equipped to help you develop your project from raw footage to DVD. Video cameras and editing facilities are available for booking through myTrent, in the Resources tab at the top of the page, once in resources select Media Service Equipment Request.

Computer Labs

The Trent Computing Labs are general purpose computing facilities, managed by the Information Technology Department, and are loaded with all pertinent software suites. The Information Technology department overlooks the operation of several computer labs on and off the Trent Symons campus. These labs are for student use only. Students must have their Trent username and password in order to use the computers in the computer labs. Computer Labs are located in Bata Library, Otonabee College, the DNA building, Scott House, and Oshawa. Computer Lab hours can be found here.

Email

Electronic mail is an effective method for communications between members of the Trent University community. Every student is provided with an e-mail account for this purpose. There are, however, many members of the Trent community who have elected to use non-Trent email accounts. As a result there has been some confusion maintaining mailing lists and some communications have been missed. If you want to use an external email account you must forward your Trent email to that account. By way of example, if Joe Student's Trent email account is jstudent@trentu.ca and Joe prefers to use his Hotmail account, then Joe needs to set a forward on his Trent email account. This will ensure that any mail sent to Joe's Trent email account will automatically be forwarded to his Hotmail.
