Diploma in IES
The two year diploma in IES is open to students of Aboriginal ancestry who have the equivalent of Ontario Grade 12, or qualify as mature students. Applications are reviewed by the Registrar’s office and the Indigenous Studies Department.
Mature applicants with less than grade 12 will be evaluated on the basis of (i) information given by the applicant; (ii) references from work experience; (iii) personal interviews.
Upon completion of the Diploma Program, students wishing to further their study may apply for admission to the Degree Program and have all university credits already earned applied towards a B.A. or a B.Sc.
Courses
INDG 1010 provides the academic skills, attitudes, strategies and mutual support systems for students in the Indigenous Studies Diploma, Indigenous Management and Economic Development, or the Indigenous Environmental Studies programs.
During either the first or second year, students are required to successfully complete a field course, ERSC – INDG 2150H, or the classroom/laboratory-based course ERSC – INDG 2650.
The following credits are required to complete the program:
ERSC 1000
ERST – CAST 250 or ERST 2570H or CAST – ERST – GEOG – INDG 2040,
INDG – ERST 2601, INDG 1000, 150H and 1510H
1 additional credit from Indigenous Studies or Environmental & Resource Science/Studies if ERSC – INDG 2150H or ERST-2570H was completed, or .5 additional credits from Indigenous Studies or Environmental & Resource Science/Studies if ERSC – INDG 2650 was completed
