Volunteering in International Development

Do you consider yourself a concerned community member, a social activist, or a global citizen? Do you have special campaigning, organizing, and lobbying skills that you want to share? Are you looking for a way to share your "global" outlook on politics, culture, and development with local high school students? If so, we have a volunteer opportunity for you. Global Youth Connect!, a program of the Kawartha World Issues Centre (KWIC) at Trent, offers a range of workshops in local high schools for youth interested in world issues and positive social change. We are looking for workshop leaders and facilitators to help us offer the workshops during the 2003-2004 school year. KWIC are especially interested in workshop leaders who have traveled, lived, studied, or volunteered abroad, particularly in countries of the South (or "developing" countries). Many youth locally are interested in hearing about your experiences abroad.

KWIC will provide workshop outlines, facilitation training, workshop scheduling, transportation to the schools, and other support. If you would like to volunteer and attend this training, please contact Cheri, Global Youth Connect! Coordinator, at the Kawartha World Issues Centre at 748-1680 or kwic@trentu.ca to arrange for a quick interview. KWIC will also give you resources and register you for the training session.
