- Interdisciplinary TA workshops
The Instructional Development Centre coordinates a program of interdisciplinary TA workshops for graduate students during introductory week in September and during the residential reading break in October.
- Discipline-specific TA workshops
Discipline-specific workshops have been included to provide Graduate Programs and Undergraduate Departments/Programs with an opportunity to fill training needs that are not being met through the interdisciplinary TA workshops. Completion of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System training may qualify under the category of discipline-specific training. It is important to note that a maximum of three hours of discipline-specific TA workshops may be applied to the TA Training Certificate of Completion. Attendance at introductory, weekly or routine meetings with the course instructor/coordinator does not qualify as discipline-specific TA workshops.
- Teaching Effectiveness Program workshops
The Teaching Effectiveness Program offers a forum to promote and support discussion related to teaching among Trent faculty, staff and graduate students. It is an opportunity for creative problem solving, building on the practice of others. These workshops are led by volunteer faculty and staff. Graduate students will receive invitations throughout the academic year to attend workshops via an e-mail distribution list managed by the Office of Graduate Studies. The topics vary each year, and are not generally repeated.
- Online Workshop on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment
The University of Ottawa 's Sexual Harassment Office has granted Trent University the permission to use their online workshop, the Prevention of Sexual Harassment, as a one-hour credit toward Trent 's TA Training Certificate Program. This online workshop was developed by the University of Ottawa's Sexual Harassment Office in conjunction with the University of Ottawa's Centre for E-learning. It is an excellent training resource and is highly recommended. It provides an interactive online experience that outlines how to recognize, respond to and prevent sexual harassment; what the law says; and what your responsibility is as a member of the University community. Although it is written from the institutional perspective of the University of Ottawa , the laws governing sexual harassment and the concepts illustrated in the training program are universal. Upon successful completion of this online workshop, a certificate is produced by the University of Ottawa.
Send a copy of this certificate to the Instructional Development Centre to receive credit for the training.
