Phone service is provided via a voice over internet protocol (VOIP) through Nexicom.  The cost of each of these services is included in the residence fees.  The phone service includes a long list of features including 250 minutes per month of long distance calling in North America and 2.9 cents/minute for long distance calls after the first 250 minutes.

For an additional $10/month, students can receive unlimited long distance calling if they wish. There is not cost for incoming calls. There are competitive overseas rates that vary depending on the country and calling cards also work on the system for long distance. For more information please visit www.nexicom.net/trent.

Students need to bring their own phone and will sign out an adapter to connect the phone to the internet.

Students will have the ability to keep their phone number for their entire time in Peterborough during their education at Trent University.  For very similar rates, students can maintain the Nexicom service when they move off campus, including the same phone number.

Registration for Phone Services

Please remember to register for your phone service prior to your arrival in residence at www.nexicom.net/trent. Further information regarding phones and internet has already been emailed out to you and can also be found on our website at www.trentu.ca/housing. On the registration form you will be asked for a method of payment – either a bank account or a credit card number. There are three reasons why Nexicom will be asking for your credit card information.

1. If you sign up for the $10.00 a month unlimited long distance plan. They will need to charge you above what we have charged you in residence.

2. If you don't sign up for the $10.00 a month unlimited, but you go over your 250 long distance minutes a month or use Operator or Directory Services, Nexicom will need some way to charge you.

3. To have your payment information in case you do not return the adapter. If you don't return the adapter at the end of the school year, you will be charged.
