Current Students

The following content applies to students who were admitted to Trent University during the 2017-18 academic year, or earlier.

Trent’s undergraduate scholarship policy was revised in June 2016 and a number of changes were made to the scholarship administration.

The revised, Senate approved, scholarship policy has fostered a number of changes to how scholarships are awarded. These changes have resulted in a more flexible scholarship program that will directly benefit the students, and allow them to make more responsible course selections without compromising their scholarship.

What Hasn’t Changed

Eligibility

To be eligible for an Entrance Scholarship renewal, students must maintain an average of at least 80% in 5.0 Trent credits during the previous academic year.

Students who were not eligible for an Entrance Scholarship are automatically considered for an In-course Scholarship at the end of each year. To be eligible for an In-course Scholarship, students must maintain an average of at least 85% in 5.0 Trent credits during the previous academic year.

At least 4.0 of the required 5.0 credits must be completed during the Fall/Winter term. Up to 1.0 credit can be from the Summer term directly following Fall/Winter. If a student completes more than 5.0 credits, the best 5.0 credits will be used to determine the scholarship average.

Approved Reduced Course Load

Students who have been approved by the Student Accessibility Services office for a Reduced Course Load accommodation, will be eligible to renew their Entrance Scholarship, or be considered for an In-course Scholarship, as long as they have maintained an average of at least 80% (85% for In-course Scholarships) in 4.0 credits during the previous academic year.

New Changes

Administration

To align with the new term billing policies, scholarships will now be awarded on a per term basis. The scholarships will be divided equally in half; one half will be credited towards Fall term fees and the other towards Winter term fees. Scholarship installments will be credited to student accounts on or before the dates below.

2017-18 Scholarship Installment Dates

  • Fall: September 1

  • Winter: January 1

Requirements

To remain eligible for each term installment, students are required to be enrolled in at least 2.0 credits per term as of the final date for withdrawal from term courses.

2017-18 Final Dates for Course Withdrawal

  • Fall: November 7, 2017

  • Winter: March 9, 2018

If a student does not meet the course load requirement as of the final date for withdrawal from term courses, the scholarship installment for that term will be reversed. A student who does not qualify for the Fall term installment may still be eligible to receive the Winter installment and vice versa.

Key Note: Although students are only required to be in 2.0 credits per term (4.0 credits over the Fall/Winter) to receive their scholarship, they are still required to complete at least 5.0 Trent credits over the academic year in order to renew their scholarship (or be eligible for an In-course Scholarship) in the following academic year. Up to 1.0 Trent credit completed during the Summer term directly following the Fall/Winter term can be used towards the 5.0 credit requirement.
