Volunteer Opportunities for 50th Anniversary

Trent University will be celebrating the 50th anniversary at events beginning in August 2014 and concluding in June 2015.

Much of the planning is complete but there will be many opportunities for involvement as a volunteer or participant during these events.

50th Anniversary Kickoff & Alumni Reunion Weekend (August 7 - 10, 2014):

Several volunteers will be required and will be allocated to a specified events. Here are some of the events where we will need volunteers:

  1. Thursday August 7 - Thursday kick off reception & book launch - contact Sue Robinson
  2. Friday August 8th & Saturday August 9th - Ideas That Change The World Symposium - contact Sue Robinson
  3. Saturday August 9th - TIP reunion & dinner - contact Juan Burneo
  4. Saturday August 9th ( 2 - 4 pm) Campus Meet & Greet Refreshment breaks & tours - contact Sue Robinson OR please contact any academic or service department that you worked with directly if you are willing to be on site to assist!
  5. Saturday August 9th athletics open house, tours & BBQ - contact Lianne Schumacher.
  6. Saturday August 9th - Saturday afternoon and evening - Peter Robinson College Reunion - contact Bill Sheperd.

Join the 50th Anniversary Trent Student Steering Committee to Plan and Run Events!!

During the 2014 - 2015 academic year, there will be many opportunities for current Trent Students to be involved in the planning and/or running of student events celebrating the 50th anniversary of Trent University.

If you are energetic, enthusiastic and have some great ideas or just want to help out please contact the Student Committee

Homecoming & Head of the Trent (Saturday October 4, 2014):

  • Several volunteers will be required on this day (between approximately 10 am - 3 pm) to assist with the alumni homecoming events and at our alumni welcome table.

50th Anniversary Chancellors Gala (Friday October 17, 2014):

  • This is going to be a spectacular & historic event! 
  • Volunteers will be need to assist with set up and decorating, along with several volunteers needed to work at the evening event in many capacities including coat check, welcome tables, greeters, courtesy staff.

Downtown Community Celebration & Parade (Saturday October 18, 2014):

Please wear GREEN and join us on this day as we re-create the opening day parade of Trent University that occured in October 1964.

The Parade will begin at 1:30 pm, starting at Trinity United Church and proceeding south on Rubidge Street approximately 500 metres to the Rubidge Retirement Home (this was the original site of Trent University) for a plaque dedication and presentations of thanks to community partners!

  • We will need volunteers for:
    • Recruiting groups to join the parade.
    • To participate in the parade, perhaps in costume.
    • To  assist with the parade marshalling.
    • Providing direct assistance on the paraderoute to participants as needed.
    • To bring enthusiasm and energy to the planning process by joiing our parade committee.

Staff, Faculty & Retireees Appreciation BBQ (April 2015):

  • 2 or 3 volunteers will  be needed to assist with the planning of a special appreciation BBQ featuring a complimentary lunch and entertainment to thank our fellow staff, faculty and retirees for their support and assistance throughout the 50th anniversary year.
  • We will meet once in late fall 2014, and twice in winter 2015 for approximately an hour each time.

Doors Open Peterborough at Trent University (May 2, 2015):

  • 3 - 5 volunteers will be needed to assist with the Doors Open Peterborough Open House occuring at Trent's Peterborough Campus on Saturday May 2, 2015.

International Study on the Conference of Canada (May 21 - 23, 2015):

  • 10 - 12 volunteers are needed to assist in many aspects of the International Conference on the Study of Canada in all areas from planning, support work to on-site volunteerring for the Conference itself.
  • This is a great opportunity for students to gain valuable experience at an event of this level. In particular, students with an interest in Canadian Studies are encouraged to volunteer and get involved.

Convocation June 2015:

  • 10 - 15 alumni are needed to participate in an alumni honour guard during the various convocation ceremonies, to mark the convocation ceremonies of the 50th anniversary year.
