May 11, 1950

My dear Marjorie:

I learned only yesterday of Bill's passing and the news came with the same shock as if a brother of mine had gone. Of all my New York friends he was the dearest. He meant so much to me personally and as a literary friend and sponsor. My richest experiences at New York were at your house with him and your own sweet self. I shall never forget your hospitality. My heart is profoundly moved by your loss and I send you my tenderest sympathies. My family add theirs, for when I 'broke the news' last night it cast deep shadows on them, for they seemed to have known the two of you personally from my constant references to you.

God bless you,
Ned Pratt
