My dear Earle:

I went over the poem to find out how it might be abridged but I really think it is too organic for selections. It could be cut, however, if explanatory notes were put in between the excerpts. Anyway, let me have your judgment on the appropriateness to the C.P.M. If the magazine were twice as long the difficulty wouldn't be so great, but as it is at present I have grave doubts.

The very best to you and yours.

'Behind the Log,' a draft of which was enclosed here for Birney's assessment.
