[Toronto, Ont.]
Tuesday p.m. [12 Sept. 1941]

For three nights now I have tried to capture that mouse but without any success whatsoever. I tied the bacon around the catch, but the rascal had every milligram consumed this morning. Can you suggest a solution? Besides eating bacon he devoured one half an apple and two-thirds of a potato. The only place that is safe from his depredations is the refrigerator.

However, I haven't despaired. I shall make an heroic effort again tonight and if I don't get him this time, you can look after it yourself when you come back – and may it be soon.
