[8 Dec. 1923]

Dear old thing,

To facilitate the inebriation of publishers en masse, I am sending along a couple of manuscripts. You might keep at least three in 'delirium tremens' at once. This will make for economy in time and space, as the Atlantic is apt to be a little desultory now-a-days.

Actually typescripts of The Witches' Brew. (Pierce replied on 12 December: 'Your inebriating mass of manuscripts have come to hand, and soon the publishers on both hemispheres will be, as you say, inebriated. You may expect to hear a report of some sort in the near future. If you hear something that sounds like a "whoop-ee!," it will only be another publisher gone wrong.')
