Trent’s Government Relations initiatives are led primarily by the President’s Office and supported through the External Relations and Advancement Portfolio.
The University’s Government Relations function seeks to strategically position Trent University within the priorities of the Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments by building long-term relationships, increasing Trent’s profile and building awareness, identifying key research sectors within government priorities, creating new partnerships and supporting nation-wide and provincial advocacy strategies.
Government Relations acts as a resource to the Trent University community by:
- Providing comprehensive government contact databases and links to important government information
- Developing strategies to showcase Trent’s attributes and opportunities for investment and partnerships through continued communications with key government officials.
- Increasing awareness of Trent’s research excellence, Vision 2014 and initiating face-to-face meetings with government officials to tell Trent’s story.
- Supporting Trent’s research strategy by tracking government priorities and identifying complementary Trent research opportunities.
- Targeting outreach to key federal and provincial departments, as well as monitoring tri-council announcements and cultivating existing government partnerships
- Working towards increasing Trent’s profile in existing and new partnerships as well as positioning Trent as the centre piece of an economic development strategy for central Ontario.
- Supporting National (AUCC) and Provincial (COU) advocacy strategies
- Collaborating with the City of Peterborough’s elected and administrative officials through the City-University Liaison Committee
