Undergraduate

The ERS Program offers courses jointly with the following Departments and Programs. They are also commonly combined with the ERS Program in a joint-major degree.

 

Graduate

Many ERS Program faculty supervise graduate students in these Programs. Students can choose to enrol in one of these Programs after completing their undergraduate degree. Below is a sampling; see the Trent University Graduate Studies web page for a complete list.

Trent Environmental Research Centres and Facilities

  • Centre for Environmental Modelling and Chemistry (CEMC)

    This research lab's mission: to contribute to improved management of chemicals in our environment, locally, regionally, nationally and globally, by acquiring and analysing appropriate data on chemical properties and developing, validating and disseminating mass balance models, which describe the fate of these chemicals in the environment.

  • DNA Building
    Trent University’s DNA Building is a centre of academic excellence dedicated to interdisciplinary teaching and research, especially in the discipline of DNA Forensics.

  • Institute for Watershed Science
    (formerly Watershed Science Centre)
    Aim: to further the understanding of physical and ecological processes governing watershed function and to transfer this knowledge to support resource management decision-making.

  • James McLean Oliver Ecological Centre

    Developed as a residential field station for teaching and for long-term ecological research, the Centre is used for research, graduate education and undergraduate classes by biologists, geographers, chemists, modellers and environmental scientists.

  • Trent Nature Areas
    With over 1,400 acres of land situated on the banks of Otonabee River and over 30 kilometres of nature trails, Trent boasts one of the most picturesque University campuses in the country. These natural areas are used for recreation, teaching, and research.

  • Water Quality Centre (WQC)
    The focus of the Centre is the determination of trace quantities of inorganic and organic substances found in aquatic environments.

Environmental Advisory Board (EAB)

A Trent committee that examines, monitors, and works to improve various environmental issues on campus.

Trent-Fleming Trail Studies Unit

Several members of Trent University and Fleming College established a Trail Studies Unit in 1992, to help provide expertise on the development, planning, management and interpretation of trails.

Trent University Nature Areas

This site describes the various nature areas on Trent's Symons campus. Several ERS faculty and staff are involved in managing and maintaining these areas, and they are used by many for recreation.

A Peterborough-based organization that works to promote environmentally-friendly programs and activities.
