A Performance Poetry Symposium

Poetry made public with a weekend of workshops, discussions and performances.

In February 2008, Trent University was pleased to host Doing It In Public; a conference in performance, poetry and publics. An innovative fusion of performance art, media, and literature, this event was a unique and exciting experience in the Peterborough community.

Artists from both Canada and the United States - including Christian Bök, Alexis O’Hara, Motion Brathwaite, Angela Rawlings, Jill Battson, Derek Beaulieu, Lebogang Mothibatsela and Ziysah - lead a variety of succesful workshops and performed over the course two nights to packed audiences.

Performances were held on Friday, Feb 29th and Saturday, March 1st, in the beautiful Sadleir House Dining Hall (751 George St. N). Multiple workshops were held on the Saturday afternoon in a number of locations throughout Trent's downtown Traill College
. All events in the symposium were free and open to all!

Doing It In Public was facilitated by staff and students of the English Department; in particular by Prof. Hugh Hodges, graduate & undergraduate students of ENGL-4951, and English MA Program Office Administrator Kim Fielding.

The symposium was supported by Trent University, The Canada Council for the Arts and The League of Canadian Poets.
