Clerical Assistant
What You Need to Do:
- Provide the DSO with assistance in the Office during the extended evening hours or during the day when needed.
- Answer enquires after hours,
- Assist students and other volunteers with the photocopier or other equipment.
- Assist DSO staff with projects when needed
Who Benefits?
- Students who are unable to get to the office during regular hours, benefit by having access to computers and general information about services available after hours. They can also pick up prepared forms, notes and books-on-tape on their time line.
- Disability Services Office staff have reliable assistance in the evening hours to assist with some jobs that they are unable to do during regular hours due to volume of work.
- You benefit by gaining skills in reception, public service, and equipment use.
Tips to Make it Easy:
- Inform yourself about the services of the Disability Services Office to be able to offer general information about services.
- Don't answer any questions about specific accommodations or students; direct the person to call the office during regular working hours for this type of information.
- Refer questions you are not certain of answers to SNO staff.

- "What if someone comes in and asks me whether he/she is eligible for services?"
Any inquiries regarding the services of the Disability Services Office should be directed to the office staff. The person can leave a message with you or call back during regular office hours. Your duty it to provide extended hours so students can have access to equipment or pick up information left for them or to answer general questions about services available through the office.
- "What if I am sick or will be away when I am scheduled to volunteer?"
Call the office is you are going to be unavailable, we have a list of alternates who are usually available if you can't make it.
Time Commitment: 3-4 hrs/week
