LD Assessment Process
Students who suspect that they might have a Learning Disability and/or Attention Deficit Disorder can explore the option of assessment through the DSO.
LD assessment is facilitated through our office as a fee-for-service support. Students who are currently receiving OSAP funding or those who have applied for and been refused OSAP and can demonstrate financial need may be eligible for a bursary to cover the cost of the assessment.
Our process in regards to assessment is as follows:
1. Student meets with a DSO advisor and discusses learning concerns. Contact the office at 705-748-1281 or at disabilityservices@trentu.ca for an appointment.
2. If evidence exists of a significant learning problem of long duration, the student then completes the On-line LD Screener.
3. The LD Screener is reviewed by our Learning Specialist and the student is then given a referral to one of three psychological assessment providers for an assessment.
The assessment is done on a fee-for-service basis. If the student is eligible for an assessment bursary, then the student completes the form and proceeds with the assessment.
4. If the student is not eligible for either bursary programs, an assessment referral is made to the Regional Assessment and Resource Centre (RARC) at Queen's University where there is a sliding scale for assessment costs. During the academic year (Sept-April) assessors from RARC come periodically to Trent to provide on-site assessment services. Assessments through RARC require additional screening instruments to be completed prior to setting us the assessment appointment.
