A Message From the Principal of Otonabee College

OC is the only college at Trent named for a natural phenomenon: “Otonabee” refers to the river that runs through campus, and means “fast, boiling water,” and we are well named: OC is a wildly inclusive place, with always something going on. The residence portion of college is made up of eight houses, all of them connected by an interior walkway called "the Street". The residence is coed, although there are some single-sex floors within the houses. Each house contains single and double study-bedrooms, a kitchenette and a common area with a large shared laundry room attached in "the Street". Adjacent to the residence is the College Office where you can bring any and all your questions about life at Trent, academic or social.

Head out down the “29 Steps” and you pass through “the Link,” a set of ten faculty offices, into the academic wing of the College. At the south end is a large computer laboratory, with computing facilities available for general student use. On the east the academic wing looks out onto an impressive stand of cedar trees. At the North end of the academic wing you can find the Dining Hall and the food court known as "Market Place".

The Wenjack Theatre, as well as being Trent's largest lecture hall, provides space for theatrical productions by both amateur students and professional companies. Up above the Wenjack foyer is the OC Commons, the public space in Otonabee College set aside for coffee, lunch, studying and just lounging around. When it becomes pub space, we call it the “Cat’s Ass” for traditional reasons, lost in the mists of time.

I hope that you will take a moment to drop by the College Office for a visit with me or my Assistant, Michele Sparkes.  It’s our pleasure to help you get the most out of Trent through all Otonabee College has to offer.
