The Founding of the Colleges

While developing Trent University, a great deal of thought went into how to organize the university to encourage close association between students and faculty as well as to ensure that scholars from different disciplines were given ample opportunity to associate with one another. The college system was implemented in the hopes of achieving these goals. Smaller social, academic, and athletic communities within the larger university institution help promote an environment of individual learning in which students flourish.  Each college is home to a college head, college assistant, and a senior tutor who design programming and events for students to enjoy as well as provide academic support for students in their college. The faculty at Trent University are also affiliated with a college; you’ll often find these “fellows” taking part in the same college programming that you attend!

The college system at Trent University contributes to the learning environment at Trent, encouraging smaller class sizes, accessible academic assistance, an active athletic component through intramurals, as well as a variety of guest lecture series and artists in residence. Each college creates a unique atmosphere for students to live and learn in through their strong association to college traditions.  Individual cheers, colours, mottos, and events contribute to individualizing each college.

For more information on each college, please refer to their individual websites which can be found on the left hand navigation bar of this page.
