Philanthropic Life
- A well-known philanthropist, Tom Jackson created an annual series of Christmas concerts called the Huron Carole. Featuring Tom and numerous other Canadian singers and performers, the Huron Carole troupe travelled across the country each year, raising money for the Canadian Association of Food Banks. After 17 years, Tom retired the Huron Carole and in its place launched Singing for Supper, a cross-Canada tour that plays smaller communities. $5.5M has been raised for Canadian food banks and family agencies to date. Awarded Country Event of the Year in 1998 by Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA)
- In 1997 Tom initiated The Dreamcatcher Tour following the suicide of North of 60 cast member Mervin Good Eagle. The tour visited 13 cities, delivering a message of empowerment to communities suffering the loss of young lives to suicide. Since 1997 Tom has visited over 170 communities.
- Also in 1997, Tom spearheaded The Red River Relief Benefit, raising almost $3M for flood relief in Manitoba.
- Tom co-produced The Vigil, a post-9/11 concert fundraiser held September 12, 2001, engaging Canadian Country Music industry professionals to raise money for the Red Cross. Awarded Country Event of the Year by CCMA.
- Tom led and hosted the CBC coverage of Say Hay, an Alberta event that raised $1.8M for drought-stricken prairie farmers. Awarded Country Event of the Year; Country Music Special of the Year and Humanitarian Award by CCMA.
- In 2003, Tom collaborated with Calgary-based industries to create Beef Relief resulting in over $600,000 of aid for cattle ranchers devastated by border closures.
- Moved by increasing issues surrounding global food insecurity and homelessness, Tom’s next foray in elevating the quality of life of Canadians is to work on the issue of affordable housing.
