Welcome to Biology

Biology is the science of life. At Trent, our faculty in the Department of Biology study life from its most elementary building blocks (molecules and cells) to its largest expressions (populations, communities, and global ecosystems). The 21st century has been called “the Age of Biology”. In research and teaching, we tackle some of the most important issues of our times – such as the spread of infectious diseases, conservation of genetic diversity, impact of environmental stress, and the loss of species.

Our students interact with their professors in labs, lectures, seminars, and the field. We involve our undergraduates in exciting, high-quality research programs, and we offer hands-on internships in Conservation Biology and Health Sciences. Our campus is situated in the midst of the Trent Nature Areas, a large and diverse ecological laboratory.

New Course (January 2012)

Biol4460H – Internship in Medical Sciences  Syllabus

Students must successfully complete a placement in a hospital setting shadowing a physician for the equivalent of three hours/week for 12 weeks. Students will also be assigned practical readings and background theory every week from their preceptor. BIOL 4460H is open to students who have earned at least 13.5 university credits and achieved a cumulative average of at least 80%. Prerequisite: BIOL 3830H, 3840H. Co-requisites: BIOL 4160H & 4320H. Enrolment is very limited and competitive. Application forms can be downloaded or a hardcopy can be picked up at the Biology office. Completed application along with a transcript must be submitted by December 14th to Craig Brunetti (Life & Health Sciences Building D214). Excludes BIOL4450Y. Application Form
