On behalf of the University and your Alumni Association we are inviting you to take part in the annual Letter-Writing Campaign to high school students who are considering studying at Trent University.

The Letter-Writing Campaign is one of the longest standing programs of the Alumni Association. It is a unique blend of alumni gratitude for our exceptional educational experience and a splendid expression of alumni pride in Canada's outstanding small university. High school liaison officials have emphasized the growing competitive nature of

student recruitment. Potential university students are very informed and discerning. The alumni endorsement of Trent provides a valuable "third party" credibility.

Program Objectives: To provide, through Alumni representatives, a personal approach to potential Trent Students. to demonstrate Alumni interest in the university by showing interest in a potential student's decision to attend.

Who do we approach? This year the Office of Admissions has identified people using a wide variety of criteria, the bottom line being those who would most benefit from the personal contact this program offers.

But I don't know where the applicants academic interests lie! Actual knowledge of programmes and interest is not required. We want the applicants to get a sense of the University, its students, staff, faculty and alumni. The programme information is available through the University's calendar and departmental newsletters.

I wrote but I didn't hear back... We cannot emphasize strongly enough the public relations value of the approach alone. We know from experience that not all applicants will reply to your letter. University officials, however, are unanimous in their view that the effect of receiving such an Alumni Letter is very valuable to Trent.

Does it work? An emphatic Yes. We have heard over an over again from current students at Trent how impressed they were to receive a personal Alumni letter. This show of interest says something important about Trent and its Alumni.

If you wish to get involved in this programme contact us at the Alumni Office.
