 Welcome!Salvete!In the Department of Ancient History & Classics, we study primarily the traditional “Classical” cultures, those of the ancient Greeks and Romans, but we also put them in the context of their predecessors and neighbours, such as the Aegean Bronze Age cultures (the Cycladic, Helladic, and Minoan peoples), Egyptians, and Etruscans. We are in an extraordinary position to be able to study these civilizations using many types of evidence, allowing us to bring these “dead” people virtually back to life. Our programmes and offerings are designed to allow students to sample everything or to focus on one stream in particular:
