Trent University Library Announces:
2012 ESRI Canada GIS Scholarship
Deadline for Submission: Wednesday, February 8, 2012, 4:30 p.m.
Trent University Library is delighted to announce that the University is a recipient of a 2012 ESRI Canada Scholarship. This award is intended to encourage a senior undergraduate or graduate student to continue his or her studies in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
The ESRI Canada Scholarship consists of the following:
- A one-time payment of $1,000
- Complimentary, not for resale, permanent license of ArcGIS software, including one-year complimentary maintenance:
- ArcGIS ArcInfo
- ArcGIS Desktop Single Use Extensions: ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, ArcGIS 3D Analyst, ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst, ArcGIS Network Analyst, ArcGIS Publisher
- One-year subscription to the ESRI Developer Network (EDN), which includes ArcGIS Server Enterprise Advanced for development purposes
- A copy of “Web GIS: Principles and Applications”
- A copy of “Getting to Know ArcGIS ModelBuilder”
- A copy of “GIS Tutorial 3: Advanced Workbook”
- Access to ESRI’s Virtual Campus for one year for 20+ESRI-developed courses
- A complimentary registration for one of ESRI Canada’s User Conferences
- Two complimentary instructor-led training courses
The successful student candidate will be required to create a short report or presentation for ESRI. This presentation would focus on a major project undertaken by the student and show how the scholarship has helped develop their GIS skills, using the technology that ESRI has provided. It should be a one-page description, a short PowerPoint presentation or even a poster that showcases some of the maps the sudent created. This report or presentation will be used to promote the student's GIS skills within the GIS community.
Who is elligible:
All upper-year undergraduate and graduate students, from any discipline, who are currently enrolled at Trent and who will be continuing at Trent next academic year. A condition of the scholarship is that the student must be continuing at Trent during the upcoming academic year, 2012/13.
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of competitive evaluation of a paper or project that includes a GIS component.
How to Apply:
Trent faculty and course instructors are encouraged to nominate a student. Please send us a copy of the student’s paper or project no later than 4.30 pm, Wednesday, Febrary 8, 2012. Paper or electronic submissions are welcome. Please include as well the following information with your nomination:
Department name
Student’s degree program
Professor’s name (your name)
Student salutation, first and last name
Student’s Trent email
A short note explaining how you know the student, and the assignment (or other academic context) for which the work was submitted.

Submissions will reviewed by a committee consisting of a Trent faculty representative, the ESRI Site License Administrator (the Head of the Maps, Data and Government Information Centre, Trent University Library), and the Data and GIS Support Specialist, Maps, Data and Government Information Centre.
