To narrow a topic it sometimes helps to think about time periods, population groups, geographic regions, etc.
Discuss ideas with your classmates, TAs, or professors.
Take notes and record information about interesting resources you find while exploring a topic.
Be sure that the topic meets the requirements of the assignment.
Start early to determine if the scope of a topic is manageable in the time you have to complete your assignment and so that you know if there are available resources on the topic.
Before you can start your research, you should have a solid understanding of the concept or topic that you're dealing with. The following resources will help you form and/or refine your research topic.

Check relevant chapters in your course textbook - your topic may have already been introduced. Use any references in the bibliography to get you started.
