Using the Keep Feature in TOPCATTOPCAT offers a feature called Keep, which temporarily stores the records you mark, for printing, emailing, or viewing at the end of your search. The records are only kept until you perform another search. To use the Keep feature you must have a record or a list of records on your screen. Here is what the screen will look like when you have a list of records in TOPCAT:
If you click on the Full Details of a record, you see this screen:
Once you are done searching, view your Kept items by clicking on Kept. You'll get this screen:
You now have the option to view you items, remove them, sort them, print them, or email them. The Brief record is usually enough information for you to save, but you can change it to Full or All. View your results before printing or e-mailing, so that you can see what will appear in your list. If you email records to yourself, the message will come from the library system (libsys) and the subject line will say "From WEBSERVER at port 6". The records will be formatted in a typical "card catalogue" style. The email will look similar to this:
Important Note: The records you keep are only kept until you perform another search. You will need to do something with your kept records each time you search.
