RefWorks Find out about our online bibliographic manager.

RefWorks is a tool that allows you to create a personal database to organize and manage your bibliographical references. You can import and store citations from online databases for future reference, organization, and use.

Connect to the library catalogue. There are no restrictions on access to TOPCAT; anyone can search it anytime. It provides information about ALL library holdings, whether online, in print, or any other format.
Online Indexes by Title A list of all our online indexes.
Subject Guides Lists of indexes and resources by subject.
E-Resources Online resources other than indexes. This includes reference materials and books.

Connect to E-Journals Find all our e-journals, by title, keyword, subject, ISSN, or provider.
Citation Linker Find out if Trent has access to a specific article or journal issue.
ISI Highly Cited The ISI website helps identify individuals, departments and laboratories that have made fundamental contributions to the advancement of science and technology in recent decades. ISI Highly Cited includes biographical information and full publication listings.
Information on Get it! Trent Trent Library, along with the other OCUL (Ontario Council of University Libraries) sites, uses a service which provides enhanced linking to online resources. Using Open URL technology, this product links to online resources at the article or Table of Contents level, as well as offering a search of TOPCAT (the library catalogue) for print resources. It's called "Get it!".
Media Collection Information on our website about finding, booking, borrowing, and viewing media. Much of this information is NEW and aligns with existing library policies, procedures, and services.

Canadian Statistical Databases Databases for the MaDGIC unit.
Center for Research Libraries The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) makes available more than 4.5 million publications, archives, and collections and one million digital resources to its members libraries to supplement their own humanities, science, and social science holdings. See more information. Center materials can be obtained for extended loan periods and at no cost by users affiliated with member libraries. Trent is a member. Use RACER to request a loan from CRL.
Search Other Library Catalogues with WorldCat WorldCat describes itself as "the largest library network in the world. WorldCat libraries are dedicated to providing access to their free resources on the Web, where most people start their search for information" (from the website). WorldCat allows you to search a database of the holdings of thousands of libraries worldwide. It's an excellent tool for finding out what is out there. Once you know a book exists, you can order it on RACER.

RACER Instructions Read this if you aren't familiar with RACER yet. You can register and login from here. RACER is the Interlibrary Loans system used by all Ontario University libraries.

Media requests via RACER Media requests via ILL are made with the ILL Media Requesting form. Visit Trent’s Media Collection for more information. Search Watmedia to find media available at other Ontario University libraries.

Circulation Services

The Bata Library now accepts fines payment by cash, debit, VISA, and Mastercard.


Borrowing Policy Graduate students are granted extended loans; the loan period is for the term.  Items can be recalled after 2 weeks if another library user places a 'hold' on the item. Overdue fines on recalled items are $2.00 per day.
How to Renew Online Renewal dates for extended loans are January 15, May 15, and September 15 each year. Books can only be renewed three times, and online renewal only works if you have no overdue items or outstanding fines.
Reciprocal Borrowing If you wish to visit another Canadian University Library and borrow directly from their collection, please see the Canadian University Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement for details.
Using My Account in TOPCAT

Check what you have signed out, renew online, and put a "hold" on something that's currently signed out.

Group Study Rooms The study rooms in the Bata Library are available for use by registered Trent undergraduate and graduate students for group study or projects relating to a Trent course. Rooms may be booked online by any student with a valid Trent user name and password.
