Trent University Archives holds a wonderful
fonds known as the Geale-Rogers Papers (82-022).
Richard Birdsall Rogers was appointed supervising engineer of the Trent
Valley Canal in 1884 and was responsible for the design engineering of
the highest lift lock in the world, opened at Peterborough, Ontario in
1904. There are over 1000 photographs in these papers, many of them taken
by Rogers during the course of his work on various sections of the Trent
Canal. Photographs include work on Nassau Dam,
site of Trent University, and a side elevation
sketch of Peterborough's hydraulic lift lock.
And don't miss our on-line exhibit celebrating the work of Richard Rogers. We have transcribed all of his Diaries here and digitised many more photographs relating to the Peterborough Lift Lock.
