BIOGRAPHY / HISTORY
Judge Joseph Wearing was born August 20, 1879 in Liverpool, England. He practised law in Peterborough from 1913 until 1930 when he was appointed Senior County Court Judge in London, Ontario. In addition to the practise of law, he wrote and gave addresses on many topics, mostly in the area of international relations, law, and imperialism. Judge Wearing died in London, Ontario, on March 29, 1947.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY
The fonds remained within the custody of the Wearing family until it was donated to Trent University.
SCOPE AND CONTENT
The fonds consists of rough notes, manuscripts and texts of a number of addresses given by Judge Joseph Wearing on a wide range of subjects dealing with Canadian, imperial, international affairs and the law in society.

Title based on the creator of the fonds.
The fonds was donated by Dr. M.P. Wearing, son of Judge Wearing, November 1966.
The fonds has been arranged into four series: undated, untitled speeches; undated speeches (arranged in alphbetical order by title); dated speeches (arranged in chronological order); and miscellaneous items.
