TOPCAT
Learn the basics about our library catalogue - TOPCAT. Understand the different types of searches available and how to read a TOPCAT record. Includes searching for Reserves and Journals, checking locations and status.
Keyword
Ever wonder why your searches don't find anything useful? Understand the rules of keyword searching and how to make your searches more effective.
Articles
One of the most difficult things to do is find journal articles on a topic. Learn about Indexes, how to find them, and how to use them.
Biology Articles
Biology students need to find articles in scholarly journals early in their studies. This workshops outlines the process and demonstrates the important biology databases in particular.
Nursing Articles
45 minutes. Nursing students need to find articles in scholarly journals early in their studies. This workshop outlines the process and demonstrates one of the most important nursing databases, CINAHL (Cummulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health).
Psychology Articles
By second and third year Psychology students need to know how to locate scholarly and empirical articles in peer-reviewed journals. This workshop outlines the process and introduces the major Psychology databases.

Web of Knowledge
Understand the power of "citation searching" with the Web of Knowledge (includes Science, Social Science, Arts & Humanities.
RefWorks
One of our exciting new tools, RefWorks should be used early in the year to save you work later on. Learn about storing useful references as you find them, so that they're easily accessible later. It also helps you write the bibliography of your paper.
Google Scholar
Everyone loves to use Google, but it has its limitations. Google Scholar is the scholarly version that is better suited to University research. Learn how to make the best use of it.
Primary Full Text Resources in History
45 minutes. Trent Library has recently subscribed to new online resources that provide the text of primary documents other than journal articles. These resources are of interest to students in History, Literature, Women's Studies, Canadian Studies, and Cultural Studies. This class demonstrates the resources and how to use them.

All workshops are roughly 1/2 hour long (unless stated otherwise) and are held in our Library Instruction Room, BL201. Numbers are limited, so sign up for those you wish to attend.
Classes will be cancelled if interest/participation is low.
