Bata Library Workshops and Tours

The classes for Fall 2011 are over.

General classes are only offered at the beginning of the Fall term.

If you require help using the Library:

Many courses have subject-specific help with using the library resources:

  • Subject Guides may be found on our website,
  • in-class workshops will be listed in your syllabus or announced in class,
  • online Library Skills courses are found in myLearningSystem.

Take advantage of these opportunities to learn relevant skills and database hints.

In September and October tours and workshops are offered to Trent students, to help them learn to use the Library resources effectively. The workshops include instruction in using TOPCAT, keyword searching, and finding journal articles using online periodical indexes. Special workshops for courses, faculty, or for groups of interested students can be arranged on request by emailing libraryhelp@trentu.ca.

Library workshops are presented in the Bata Library Instruction Rooms (201 or 210) on the main (2nd) floor of the Library. Class sizes are small, so that everyone has access to a computer. Computers in the training room allow for "hands-on" instruction.

Since class sizes are limited, it's necessary to sign up for a class. Sign up online by following the link on the schedule. You can also call us to have your name added : 705-748-1011 ext. 7420.

Most workshops take 1/2 hour - 45 minutes. Classes are cancelled if no one has signed up a few days previous.

At all times there are online tutorials available to anyone. These tutorials cover the same basic skills as the workshops. Find a link to them under "Library Skills Tutorials" on our homepage.

Contact libraryhelp@trentu.ca for assistance, or to request a class for a group.
