External Borrower (EB) EligibilityWho May Borrow
All charges as specified above are non-refundable. There is a $5.00 replacement charge for a lost card. Personal identification and/or institutional identification required as noted above.
ServicesExternal Borrowers may borrow most materials found in the stacks of their home library (i.e. Bata or Oshawa). External Borrowers may not borrow from the following collections:
Interlibrary Loan services are not available to External Borrowers. Please note that an External Borrower's card does NOT provide access to the online resources that are restricted to current Trent students, faculty and staff. Very limited access to these resources is provided in the library at special workstations which do not require a login. These workstations cannot print or download, however. See more information about online access restrictions.
Borrowing RegulationsIn general, External Borrowers may have five (5) items out on their account at a time. Reciprocal University, SSFC, and Trent Alumni have the same limits as Trent students. (See our Borrowing Regulations for limits.) Items charges out for more than two weeks can be recalled by email if required by other library users. Overdue fine rates on recalled items are $2.00 per day. Loan periods: Books : 2 weeks, 3 renewals
FinesBooks : $.50 per day per item. Maximum $20.00 per item. Payment options are cash (no cheques), debit, Visa, and Mastercard. Telephone transactions are accepted with credit cards.
Returning MaterialBooks and periodicals may be returned at the Circulation Desk or, after hours, at Bata Library through the book drop located at the University court level. Library fines are assessed from the date the material is received at the Library.
Outstanding Charges and LoansExternal borrowers billed for $5.00 or more for overdue or lost book charges will have their library privileges suspended. Reapplications will not be accepted until all outstanding charges are paid.
Changes in PolicyChanges to library charges, policies, and regulations are widely advertised in the university. However, infrequent Library users should ensure that they are aware of current library policies and regulations.
