Private Study Carrels
There are 47 private study carrels in the Bata Library, to be used for silent, individual study. They are located on the 3rd and 4th floors. Each carrel is a small space equipped with a chair, table, light, and electrical outlet.
Students who need wheelchair access to a private study carrel should contact the Disability Services Office for accessible carrels.
4th Floor Carrels
The 16 private study carrels on the 4th floor are available for use by anyone, on a first-come first-served basis. If a carrel is unoccupied, you may use it. These carrels have no doors.
Graduate Study Carrels
The graduate study carrels are located on the 3rd floor. They have locked doors, and a key is issued to the student assigned to the carrel.
Eligibility and Availability:
- available to Graduate Students only;
- 31 available;
- reserved for one year - September-August.
Application:- assigned on a first-come, first-served basis through the Circulation Desk;
- current Graduate student card must be presented;
- those with access
to some office space may be asked to relinquish their place in favour
of someone without office space.
Cost:
- no direct cost for a Graduate Study Carrel;
- however, students sign a contract stating that if they don't return the key by August 31, a $100 key fee will be charged to their library account.
Regulations for Use:
- Carrel user is to return the key no later than August 31 of each year. Failure to do so will result in a $100 key fee onto your library account, which may result in blocked access to academic records.
- A lost key can be replaced at a cost to the carrel user. Please notify the Circulation Office immediately if a key is lost. Failure to report a lost key may result in the application of the $100 key fee.
- In keeping with library policies designed to reduce waste and damage, please use lidded beverages only, and deposit any waste or recyclables in receptacles.
- Carrels will be cleaned once a week by Trent University maintenance staff. Any damage, defacing, or garbage is reported to the Library Administration. Repeat incidents may result in the revoking of study carrel privileges.
- All library material left in the carrel must be signed out at Circulation. Random checks are conducted and any material not signed out is reshelved. Repeat incidents may result in the revoking of study carrel privileges.
- The library is not responsible for lost or stolen items; lock the carrel when it is not in use.
