General Browser Weirdness If your browser is not behaving
normally and giving you blank pages instead of content, or crashing
periodically, or your "Add attachment" button isn't working any more,
you need to clear
your browser cache (the temporary files that your browser uses to keep
track of recent pages)
Here's how:
If you are using Internet Explorer and the problem is not resolved, please consider downloading and installing Firefox from www.firefox.com . It's fast and free and more compatible with the learningSystem. Internet Explorer is blocking all of my Word/Powerpoint downloads -- blank screen when I try to open a document Microsoft Word and Powerpoint documents can contain Macro Viruses, so Internet Explorer is set by default to BLOCK ALL OF THESE DOWNLOADS. Changing the setting below will allow you to CHOOSE which documents to open (like from sources that you trust). You will know if Internet Explorer is blocking your downloads if you see a screen like this one when you click on a document in the learningSystem: ![]() To tell Internet Explorer to stop blocking file downloads: Tools, Internet Options, Security, 'Custom Level' -- scroll down to 'Downloads' section (about 1/3 of the way down the window) First item under 'downloads' is 'Automatic Prompting for file downloads" -- Set that to 'ENABLE' instead of 'DISABLE'. Save, and close Internet Explorer. Open Internet Explorer again and login to the learningSystem. When you try to open a document this time, you'll be given an "Open", "Save", "Cancel" option box. ![]() An alternative to all of this is to download and install Firefox (www.firefox.com) a better, faster browser that should work right away. "Session Already Running" message If you are already logged in to
the learningSystem, and you attempt to login again on another tab in
your browser, you will get a 'session already running' message.
You can only login to the learningSystem once per browser.
If, however, you are not logged in to the learningSystem, and you are getting a 'Session already running' message, then you need to clear your browser cache (the temporary files that your browser uses to keep track of sessions) Here's how:
BLANK PAGE when trying to log in to the learningSystem If you are seeing a BLANK PAGE
when you are trying to login to the learningSystem, and at the bottom
of the browser window the word "Done" appears, then you need to clear
your browser cache (the temporary files that your browser uses to keep
track of sessions) so that the myLearningSystem page can display
properly.
Here's how:
I can't open some of the documents that my instructor is posting Your instructors will be primarily posting three types of documents in the learningSystem:
LearningSystem Server as "Trusted Site" for Internet Security & Pop-upsThe official name of
the LearningSystem server is 'webct.trentu.ca'.
When setting up the server as a 'trusted site' for Internet security
purposes, you may need to specify both of the following in the "Tools', 'Internet Options', 'Security', 'Trusted Sites' window:
https://webct.trentu.ca:443 (for actual secured login) http://webct.trentu.ca (for general access) Firewall Ports Used by the LearningSystem:The following are the port numbers which must be enabled for the LearningSystem to work at Trent. If you use a personal firewall application, please open these ports so that your web browser can communicate on these port numbers. If you don't have a personal firewall but are still having problems, contact your local Internet Services Provider to ensure that they have enabled these ports on their institutional firewall.
I'm Logging in outside of the portal, and boxes to enter username & password don't appearIf
you click on the 'Login to myLearningSystem' hyperlink from www.trentu.ca/mls , and are immediately given
an
"unauthorized" message, your browser is likely currently set up to try
to
access any 'Login sites' anonymously. You need to turn this
'anonymous
login' setting off before you'll be allowed to login with your own
login
information.
Please follow the instructions in the Anonymous Login section of one of these pages depending on the browser that you're using: |
