'Teaching the "Hard Stuff" to Undergraduates
September 21 to 24, 2006
At
Trent University, Peterborough, ON

Please Note: United States visitors now require passports to enter Canada
Trent University will be hosting the 2006 Centers and Regional Associations of the Medieval Academy (CARA @ Trent) in Peterborough in the heart of the Kawartha Lake region of Ontario, Canada, with delegates to arrive on September 21 and leave on September 24. The theme of the conference papers is “Teaching the ‘Hard Stuff’ to Undergraduates”, and a full slate of speakers as well as a lively after-session discussion will be presented on the Friday afternoon, in keeping with the design of annual CARA meetings.
Activities will include a wine and cheese reception on the Thursday night, at Peterborough’s Art Umbrella; a tour of an early nineteenth-century doctor’s house, now a local historical museum, for delegates not involved in the Friday morning Executive meeting; and a Saturday excursion to the Peterborough Petroglyphs Provincial Park, to visit the remarkable ancient rock carvings that are ascribed to the aboriginal inhabitants of this region (but have at times been assumed to be Viking) and the on-site museums, with a dinner cruise on Stony Lake to conclude the evening amid Ontario’s magnificent autumn colours.
