  We always take great pleasure in learning of the accomplishments of our alumni. It is a testament to the quality and excellence of the Trent educational experience that grads and former students are making their mark in the world, in such diverse spheres of human activity.

  

David James '68 recently had his sculptures in cast glass featured in a new book, The Contemporary Glass Art of the World . The book was the first of its kind to ever be published in China , which David said “made it doubly satisfying”.

 

Elizabeth Guerrier ‘93 was recently awarded a $15,000 scholarship to do PhD work at York University . The scholarship, awarded by the National Chapter of Canada IODE, is based on her work in social anthropology, which focuses on how disaffected people form their ideas of citizen within the context of the state.

 

   Paul McLeod ‘81 has had success in whatever he has done – whether it was starting Paulmac's Pet Food, which now has 65 stores, or running his current business, Kawartha Capital Corporation. Kawartha Capital Corp. has 65 employees and regularly undertakes 2 million dollar projects.

 

   Carol Brown ‘64 has a dream; she wants every family in Ontario to have access to an affordable preschool program. Her work as chair of the Organization for Parent Participant in Childcare and Education is working hard to make that a reality.

 

   Darren Huston ‘85 became President and CEO of Microsoft Japan last July 1, 2005. With over 2,000 employees, Microsoft Japan is one of the biggest subsidiaries in the country.

 

   Mike Dixon ‘78 is currently the chair of the Psychology Department at the University of Waterloo . He also holds a Premier's Research Excellence Award, and has published 54 articles.

 

   Jaime McKenna ‘97 was recently chosen to be the valedictorian of the most recent graduating class of Certified Management Accountants. Jaime, 26, is the Director of Finance at Bell Canada 's Enterprise division in Toronto .

 

   Michael Johansen ‘84 recently published his first book, Confession in Moscow, to wide critical acclaim . Johansen is also currently the Alumnus and Writer-In-Residence at Champlain College for 2005-2006.

 

   Lindsay Stephenson ‘98 has just launched her own online business, pennypeople.com. Pennypeople is a do-it-yourself stationary service, where customers can make their own custom invitations, cards, and more.

 

   Yann Martel ‘84 is a bestselling author and perhaps one of Trent 's most popularly known alumni – but he is also now the visiting scholar at the University of Saskatchewan . Martel was appointed to this position in November 2005.

 

  Treasury Board President Reg Alcock has hired a new Chief of Staff for his ministerial political office – Trent grad Kelly Morgan ‘90 . Kelly is now the most senior political advisor to the minister.

  

Dr. Robert Campbell ‘70 has been named President of Mount Allison University. He will begin his five year term in July 2006.

 

   Sharon Carew ‘70 is the new coordinator for the Queens-Trent Concurrent Education Program. Sharon has also served as Headmaster for a school in Hong Kong .

 

  Ontario Chief Justice Roy McMurty was the most recent speaker in the annual Symons Lecture on the State of Canadian Confederation . The annual lecture series is named in honour of T.H.B. Symons, Founding President of Trent University and Honourary President of the Alumni Association.

  

   Adrian Kelly ‘86 launched his first full length novel, Down Sterling Road , earlier this year. Adrian visited Trent in October 2005, where he inscribed a copy of his novel for the Alumni Association as follows:

“To the only university in which I ran with joy. Thank you, Trent , always.”

  

   Kerry Banks ‘72 has recently released a unique sports books – The Unofficial Guide to Basketball's Nastiest and Most Unusual Records . The book outlines everything from the most exciting slam dunk contests to the most backboards broken in a single game.

 

   Peter Read '97 and Tim Newton ‘97 are working on a very exciting project. They are driving from Alaska to Chile using biofuel while producing a documentary based on their journey.

 

   Julie Johnston ‘75 just released her seventh novel, and first for adults, titled As If By Accident . She was also honoured by Mayor Sylvia Sutherland ‘68 and friends at a recent ceremony, where she was one of six people to be given the City of Peterborough‘s annual Peter Robinson award.

 

   Lynn Stear ‘82 recently purchased Human Resources Services Group. Lynn and her partners plan to expand to include more community involvement with an expanded staff in order to cover a larger area.

 

   Leslie McCartney ‘90 is currently working as Project Coordinator for an oral history project in London . She was also recently granted her MA in anthropology.

 

   Darrell Devine ‘96 is a leading exponent of rugby in Peterborough . He is involved with three different teams as a coach, including Excalibur rugby at Trent and the Peterborough Pagans.

 

   Dr. Sarah Williams ‘96 has the unique distinction of being the first woman at the Curve Lake First Nations reserve to become a doctor.

 

   Heather McKillop ‘72 has released a major anthropological work entitled, The Ancient Maya: New Perspectives. This is her second book.

 

   Melissa Webster ‘98 was recently awarded the annual Gordon W. and Arbie Hoinbeck Award for her volunteer work with the disabled. She is also a founding member of the Ontario Disabilities Services Program.

 

   David Lee ‘84 represented the Green Party in the recentg Federal election as their candidate in Leeds-Greenville.

 

   Brooke Munnings ‘01 was recently honored by the Human Resources Professionals Association of Peterborough. The award consists of $500 and is given to the Trent graduating student with the highest average in a Business Administration program.
