Academic Integrity
Academic Integrity is essential to your university studies. Your professors will demand that your work is your own and that you accurately reference the sources of the information that you use in your work; failing to maintain academic integrity will result in serious consequences. If you have questions or concerns about how to avoid acts of academic dishonesty, including how to avoid plagiarism, please seek help from your professors, TAs, or the Academic Skills Centre.
For more information on the Academic Integrity Policy at Trent as well as a variety of resources, please visit the Associate Dean of Arts and Science's Academic Integrity web site.
The Academic Skills Centre offers several excellent resources to help you avoid plagiarism and maintain academic integrity:
Documentation Guide
Our new online guide provides an overview of what types of information you need to reference in order to avoid plagiarism. It also provides detailed information about how to reference different sources in all of the major documentation styles.
Avoiding Plagiarism and Using Good Writing Techniques
Our tip sheet on avoiding plagiarism provides a brief overview of what plagiarism is and how employing good essay writing strategies can help you to avoid it.
Academic Integrity Ambassador Program
This year, first year students took time during ISW week to discuss academic integrity with upper year and graduate students who had been trained as Academic Integrity Ambassadors. These sessions provided students with the opportunity to discuss why academic integrity is important and with resources to help them to avoid academic dishonesty. For more information about the program, or if you would like to participate in it in the future, please contact Dana Capell (see Contact Us on the left menu) at the Academic Skills Centre.
