Overview
Trails are often justified as means to
improve public health by encouraging exercise. Whether or not this is true can
be researched by measuring trail use, and interviewing users about their
motivations for using trails, their type and frequency of use, and perceptions
of health benefits. Actual health benefits can be determined by measuring
people’s physiological processes while using a trail, or simulating a
trail activity, or after a period of trail use. Interviews can be conducted to
gain insight into the mental health benefits of trail use.
