Soil Software Update

Version 3.00 - August 2005

Since the Version 2.00 (November, 2004) release:

Chemical Properties
  • There was a unit error in v. 2.00. The Organic Carbon Partition Coefficient (KOC) had units of L/kg but was used as dimensionless. This has been corrected.
  • Log KOW has been added as an input.

    Environmental Properties

  • The environment now includes a root compartment. It is assumed to be a part of the soil system and at equilibrium with the soil.
  • New inputs include the density, volume fraction, and the fraction of lipid in the roots.

    The Chemical Parameters, Environmental Parameters, Results and Calculations have been updated to reflect the addition of the root compartment.

    Error Checking

  • The user is now prevented from deleting entries from an empty database.

    Diagram

  • The diagram has been updated to reflect the addition of the root compartment.
  • Concentrations in each subcompartment are now displayed.

    Print

  • This section has been updated to reflect the addition of the root compartment.
  • An error in the diagram print out has been fixed, and now the simulation ID and additional comments are properly displayed.

    About

  • The New Features Button, which you have already used, is a New Feature to this program.

    Note that the results of Version 2.00 may be obtained from Version 3.00 by setting the volume fraction of roots to zero.

    Since the Version 1.00 (1991) release:

    This is the first version to be released for the Windows platform. Calculations are identical to the previous version written for the DOS platform.

    The calculations used in Soil can be viewed, but not changed, by the user. The user interface of Soil has been updated to be more consistent with current software developed at the CEMC. Included with this update, databases have been added to the software that allow chemical and environment data to be stored to be used in future simulations.
